Shade Tree Commission meeting agenda — April 20, 2026

  1. Approval of the March 16, 2026 meeting minutes

Old Business

  1. Spring 2026 TreePennsylvania Grant trees — Delivered April 15, 2026. 6 trees planted on 18th Street and 10 delivered/planted at Charles Baber Cemetery. Remaining 10 trees still need to be planted: 6 on Centre Street, 2 on 18th Street, and 2 on West End Ave./19th Street. Stumps need to be removed to facilitate planting. Will check with City schedule to determine if trees can be planted in time.
  2. TreeKeeper Map Update — Mapping updates are ongoing.
    • Additional volunteers would be welcome
  3. America 2025 PA Schuylkill
    • PADCO wants to plant 20 trees downtown later this year. Will need to coordinate with PADCO. Updates?
    • June 27th Parade – Jane Kruse is looking for volunteers to assist with a float for the parade. Updates?
  4. Arbor Day Tree City USA presentation
    • Topics include the history of Tree City USA, history of Arbor Day, history of Forrest Hills, London Plane Trees, Walk in Penns Woods
    • Flyers sent to Schools for Poster and Poetry contests as part of Arbor Day presentation. Jane to provide update on what was received.
    • Mayor Smith needs to confirm for April 24 at 10 AM. Will Thomas has confirmed his attendance.

New Business

  1. Planned Walk through for 5th Ward — May 18, 2026 meet at City Hall and drive to 5th Ward to review.
