Vacant Property Registration Flyer
The Vacant Property Registration Program requires owners of vacant properties in Pottsville to register within 30 days and maintain their buildings in compliance with City ordinances. The program creates financial disincentives for prolonged vacancy and enhances public safety through inspections and enforcement.
Program Overview
This program seeks to create financial disincentives for property owners to leave buildings vacant rather than putting them back into productive use. It applies to all property types: Commercial, Residential, Single Family, and Multi-Family Real Estate.
Key Requirements
- All vacant properties must be registered within 30 days of vacancy
- Properties must be secured to ensure against unlawful entry
- Properties must be maintained in accordance with all City Ordinances and State Laws & Regulations
- All vacant properties will be inspected by the Code Enforcement Office
Program Goals
- Penalize property owners who allow buildings to fall into serious disrepair
- Enhance public safety by monitoring properties vulnerable to crime, vandalism, and fire
- Create opportunities for City officials and community representatives to work with owners to develop or sell properties
Registration Fees
- 0–6 months: No fee
- 6–12 months: $25.00 (waivable if property is actively marketed with a licensed realty company)
- 12+ months: $50.00 annual fee (each year until property becomes occupied and a certificate of compliance is issued)
Public Education
Public education will take place through tax bill notices, social media, Channel 15, and the city's website.
